Sports & Recreation

In addition to the sometimes strenuous aspects of sailing, ABC offers year-round exercise of many other kinds: The sports facilities include a fitness centre and squash court; two heated swimming pools, showers and changing rooms; table tennis; table football and snooker.

The Gym
The gym is for adults only and is located next to the squash court: This bijou gym has the very latest in cardio-respiratory and strength training equipment from the world's leading manufacturers. It is a self-supervised gym with machines and equipment which ensure members of all levels of experience and fitness can perform a wide selection of progressive exercises and movements.

Along with strength training machines, running machines and cross trainers for specific training, ABC provides a wide selection of balance and stabilisation equipment including stability balls, stability discs and foam rollers. The gym is supplied with a water fountain, free towels, DVD player, hifi and a flat screen plasma TV.

Squash
The Club has a squash court which is free for members to book, via The Reception. A growing number of players participate in men’s and ladies’ squash ladders with a friendly club night and inter-club matches organised when the opportunity presents itself.

Snooker
ABC has a very active snooker club that organises and frequently wins matches against other clubs in Hong Kong. Perfecting your shots in the snooker and billiard room is a sublime way of making the strains and stresses of Hong Kong living drop into the top left pocket of life.

The Big TV Screen
Members can enjoy Cable sports channels on our big projector-screen in The Bridge Room. All the major sporting events are shown, including international rugby and soccer matches, Formula one and golf. Regular bar and restaurant services are available and staff are always on hand to take your orders while you watch.

Library
The Bridge Room also has an extensive lending library for members. Many of the titles held by the Club are of a nautical and boating nature in addition to popular fiction. The Bridge Room and the surroundings are Wi Fi enabled for members wishing to use their lap tops.

Playgrounds and Pools
Not only do we have a very popular pirate ship in the playground, but the squash court doubles as a winter indoor play area packed with games and toys. Kids can play air hockey or table football, shoot hoops in the basketball corner or go for a swim. The swimming pool area offers a big pool for swimmers, a knee-deep toddler pool and a paddling pool for babies and crawlers.

The big pool and toddler pool are heated during the cooler months of the year and the toddler pool and paddling pool are sheltered from the sun during the summer. We have lifeguards on duty when the poolside area is open. For those seeking drier entertainment, The Galley has a large variety of games and activities, in addition to the selection of children’s videos in the DVD library.

Middle Island is the best facility in Hong Kong to start sailing lessons for children. A wide variety of boats means that children from the age of six are encouraged to learn to sail. There are two main programmes for children: Sea Lions and Sea Wolves. Sea Lions are generally aged between six and nine years, and learn to sail in sturdy little Optimists under the watchful eye of our trained staff. Sea Wolves are for older children who already know what it is like to have the wind in their sails.
