Pleasure Vessel Grade II Operator Cert Course

  Youth Sail Training

There are two main sail-training programmes for children:

The Junior "Sea Lion" scheme is for those aged between seven and eleven years old, and students learn to sail in "Optimist" Dinghies. Here they gain confidence to take to the water (like Sea Lions, indeed) and at the end of the course they receive a club certificate. We offer four stages in our Sea Lion Optimist sailing scheme, taking students from complete beginner to club racer. Junior Sea Lion sailing courses are heavily subsidised by ABC to encourage youngsters to sail, and hence offer exceptional value for money.  For further information on our Junior Sailing Programme, click HERE

Older children generally learn to sail in our "Pico" dinghies, and may progress on to become more skilled sailors in other more advanced dingies such as RS Fevas and Lasers. "Sea Wolf" Supervised Practice sessions are also offerred, the emphasis here is on having fun on the water whilst practising the skills learnt in the training courses. This gives the young sailors much-needed confidence to sail on their own. Our overall sail training scheme can be seen by clicking  HERE, while the Junior Programme is illustrated to the right. Young ABC sailors regularly participate in club races and other activities including the annual Interschools Regatta and the 24 Hour Charity Dinghy Race. The schedule of the latest courses can be found by clicking below, while all application forms can be downloaded on the "Application Form" page of this website.
